I bought a lamp for my family room at the thrift store ages ago. I stuck the ugly thing on the side table, thinking I would do a fabulous makeover on it within a few days. Yah right. It’s been sitting there for m0nths, mocking me every time I walk past it.
I’ve decided it’s time to change my ugly duckling lamp into something beautiful. I want something a little less time consuming than my flower lamp shade in the living room. It’s gorgeous, but it took me ages to complete.
I turned to the internet and Pinterest for some inspiration. Hmm, I’m not sure if it was helpful or harmful. I found so many pretty lamp makeovers that now I’m having a hard time deciding how I want to finish my lamp!

These are all super creative! I really liked the twine wrapped shade. I think in the right room, that can really pull a design together. Thanks for sharing.

I made the coolest shade that goes for the same effect as a “tiffany” shade but you use lampshells.
get any lampshade with a color that is compatible with the shell look. Get a small craft exacto blade with handle. Place any kind of shell against the lamp and eye ball the size and shape ot the outlne. Make the overall cut a 1/4″ LESS than actual outline size. Glue gum shell to opening. Continue until it is covered enough to your liking. They are fabulous. You can embellish the lamp base with shell accents as well.

Re cloth lampshades – I find it’s easier to cut the fabric after it’s applied to the shade. Also – for outdoor shades just modge podge them or spray a poly finish. Make sure to drill two holes through either side of the base as well as through the table to match. Run wires through base and table an secure. They will not blw over in wind!

Hi Kara, wow, what a lot of great ideas you’ve rounded up! I love the simplicity of the stenciled lampshade from Bon Temps Beignet, but I also like the Anthro Inspired Ruffle Lamp from the Pinto Pony. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for yours. Thanks again for stopping by, I’m so glad to have found your blog!
