There are so many home improvement projects going on at my house right now that it is getting laughable. New couches are being built, new carpet has been ordered, beadboard has been hung, walls are being painted, furniture is being sanded, stained, and painted, lights are being installed. Amidst all that chaos, we did actually manage to finish one project- The French Doors in the Entry!! We used to have just an open space going from the entry to the living room. But our piano is in there, and it gets pretty loud when the boys practice. Which is sometimes before school. When Rachel is still asleep. And heaven knows you DO NOT want to wake up a toddler before they are ready! So I wanted something to muffle the sound. And keep a certain someone from going in and sneaking candy, chips, and juice into the one room in the house that I absolutely forbid food to be eaten in. Initially we were going to install the door ourselves, but then found out that it would involve cutting through walls, framing in new studs, and replacing sheet rock. Sheet rock is one thing that I won’t do. So we hired it out. (Thank heavens for cousins that are contractors!) After it was installed, I painted the french doors, caulked everything, and painted the trim. My husband installed the knobs, and voila. . . our living/music room is now a little more soundproof, and a little more private. Which has come in handy when I have meetings at the house, or when I need a place to hide. Just kidding. Sort of. Here’s another before and after shot:
Now that the french doors are installed, the room is so much more functional!!

Kara, I have an entry way between two rooms that I want to add an interior type sliding door. I’m having trouble finding one that will fit that opening. Did you have a hard time too or was your entryway just a normal size? Mine looks like it should be wide enough for friends doors, yet… Apparently it’s some random number the original contractor just came up with…ggrrrrr! Any thoughts? Or suggestions might help! Thanks, Lisa
BTW, you’re one of the few articles on making a door work for an entryway. Wish you’d listed the steps..

That email address should have said .net not .met
Oh look I can correct it now! Jeeez

Our entry was not a standard size, so we hired it out. I didn’t want to mess with cutting into walls and adding support. That’s why there are no steps listed. I let the pros handle it. ๐

They look beautiful! I love french doors ๐

Thanks Janet! I love them too! I’d have more of them in my house if only I had the space. ๐
