Crochet Butterfly Pattern

Spring is just around the corner. At least that’s what I’ve heard. We woke up to about 3 inches of snow this morning. Not what I wanted! I’m ready for green leaves, flowers, and cherry blossoms. Dang mother nature, she is always messing with me!

Since it doesn’t look like spring outside, I’m surrounding myself with spring inside. Yesterday morning I started a flower project that I will share later. Last night I decided to figure out how to make crochet butterflies. After a few trial runs, I came up with a crochet butterfly pattern that I was happy with. These tiny butterflies are really quick to whip up, and I think they are super cute!

I made small butterflies using embroidery floss. You can make larger ones by using crochet yarn and a larger hook. To follow this pattern you will need to have a basic understanding of crochet. Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂

Crochet Butterfly Pattern

Supplies:
~Embroidery floss
~Size 3 hook
~Pair of scissors
~Blunt end needle
Instructions:
CH 4. Slip stitch into first ch to form a ring.
CH 4. 3tr (treble stitch) into ring. Ch 3, slip stitch into ring.
*CH 3. 3dc into ring. Ch 2, slip stitch into ring.* Repeat once.
Ch 4. 3tr (treble stitch) into ring. Ch 3, slip stitch into ring.
Fasten off by weaving the thread into the back of the butterfly using your blunt needle. Make the abdomen and antennae by wrapping floss around the middle section 2 or 3 times and tying in knot at the top. Cut the antennae to the length you like.

I made a couple of mine into hair clippies by attaching the butterflies to ribbon lined clips with a dab of hot glue. Adorable if I do say so myself!
