This cream cheese Caramel Apple Dip is the best because it has not only brown sugar, but some melted caramels. Grab a plate of sliced apples and start dunking!
This dip does come together in just minutes, but for best results, soften your cream cheese on the counter for a few hours. No one wants a lumpy cream cheese dip!
This recipe came about because my boys needed an after school snack today and we have lots of apples from our tree that needed to be eaten.
I only had a few minutes, so I decided fruit dip was the way to go. I found some caramels in my pantry, and I knew they would be perfect.
My four year old helped me by unwrapping the caramels ( a job I dislike, but he was thrilled about.) A few minutes later, we were all eating apples and dip with reckless abandon. 🙂
If you love the combination of apples and caramel, you have got to give this dip a try! It has a yummy caramel flavor that is the perfect compliment to any apple.
Apples and caramel dip makes a perfect snack any time of the day, but you can also serve this dip as a healthy dessert.
What kind of apple are best for caramel cream cheese dip?
You can actually use any variety of apple that you like. To offset the sweetness of the dip, tart apples like granny smiths and Jonathan apples offer a nice balance.
However, if you like sweet apples, gala and honeycrisps are a good choice.
If I’m serving this dip for a party, I like to arrange both red and green apple slices on the plate around the bowl of dip.
Truly, I love this dip with just about any variety of apple; the most important thing to me is that the apples are crisp!
VARIATIONS:
- You can use light cream cheese for a lower fat dip. It will not set up quite as thick, but it tastes just the same! It will even work with fat free cream cheese.
- Want a bit of crunch? Sprinkle the top of the dip with finely chopped peanuts, pecans, or any nut of your choosing.
- If you don’t have caramels, you can use caramel ice cream topping. The dip will be more runny.
- Love fall flavors? Stir in some cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg or cloves.
- If you are serving a crowd, you are going to want to double or triple this recipe. It disappears fast!
What else can I serve with this caramel cream cheese dip?
- Other fruits such as banana slices, strawberries, and grapes.
- Salty pretzels sticks are so yummy with the sweet dip.
- Graham crackers and vanilla wafers make a great treat.
- Biscotti and cookie sticks work well too.
- If you just want to eat it by the spoonful, it can be our little secret. 😉
