Creating a delicious and satisfying meal in no time at all is easy with this broiled parmesan tilapia. With its flavorful creamy topping and flaky texture, this 15-minute dish will quickly become a family favorite!
The cheesy topping is so tasty, and keeps the tilapia nice and juicy. I have a few parmesan skeptics in my family, but they still loved this recipe!
Both methods work well, but if you are in a hurry, broiled fish is the way to go! Having the tilapia close to the heating element makes it cook so much faster!
Broiling fish is one of the very easiest methods of preparation. Just make sure your oven rack is on the top slot, and let the oven preheat for about 5 minutes before adding the fish.
All you need to do is season your fish any way you like, place it on a cooking sheet, and broil it for 2-4 minutes, depending on thickness. Flip the fish over, and broil again for 2-4 minutes or until it is 145° and flakes easily.
HOW TO MAKE BROILED TILAPIA
- PREP – Line your baking pan with foil and spray with non stick cooking spray. Move your oven rack to the top slot and set the oven to BROIL.
- TOPPING – In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, and lemon juice; set aside.
- SEASON – Sprinkle both sides of the tilapia with seasoning salt, pepper, and basil.
- BAKE- Place the tilapia fillets on your prepared pan. Broil for 2-3 minutes. Carefully flip each fillet and broil for another 2 minutes.
- TOPPING- Spread the parmesan topping evenly over each piece. Broil for another 2 minutes or until topping is bubbly and internal temperature is 145°.
- SERVE- Serve hot with your favorite sides!
Store any leftover fish in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You can either reheat it in the microwave, or sprinkle it with water, wrap it with foil, and reheat it in the oven or air fryer.
VARIATIONS:
- In place of the basil, dry or fresh dill is also a tasty substitution.
- Any white fish can be substituted for the tilapia. Just keep in mind that the thicker the fish, the longer it will need to broil.
- If you don’t have seasoning salt, you can use kosher salt. You can also just use regular table salt, but you may want to decrease the amount.
- For a boost of lemon flavor, add a teaspoon or two of fresh lemon zest to the topping mixture.
What To Serve with Tilapia
- You can’t go wrong with fluffy white rice, brown rice, or even rice pilaf.
- Green veggies like roasted asparagus, steamed broccoli, or green beans add a nice pop of color to the plate.
- My family is always thrilled when I serve mashed potatoes or red potato casserole.
