I saw the idea for these Ghost Rolls in one of my old cookbooks and decided to give it a try. I think they are the cutest things! You could use frozen roll dough, but I made them from scratch.
And now, I am off to watch “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” with my family, who have returned from trick-or-treating and are running around like a bunch of monkeys. (Well, except my husband of course. He does not act like a monkey. And I am forever grateful for that fact.)
Halloween Ghost Rolls
Use your favorite dough recipe. I use this recipe for Yummy White Rolls.
Take a ball of dough and flatten it into an oval shape. Place it on a greased cookie sheet and form it into a ghost shape. It doesn’t need to be perfect, ghosts are kinda blobby. Push on two eyes.
I used black olives, which I cut into circle shapes with my kitchen shears. I think raisins would also work really well. Let raise and bake according to your recipe directions. I baked mine at 350° on the bottom oven rack for about 12 minutes because I didn’t want them to brown on the top. But my oven was acting up and they browned anyway. That’s OK, tanned ghosts are fine, right?
These are sure to be a hit with adults and kiddos alike!
