Mother’s Day Bottle Vases with Martha Stewart Glitter Paint

Glitter Paint Vases . . . spruce up ordinary bottles with glitter paint and add flowers for an easy Mother’s Day gift idea!

I was thrilled to receive an awesome package of Martha Stewart Crafts in the mail a few weeks ago. I was asked to make either a Mother’s Day gift idea, or something I could use for a Mother’s Day Brunch. I decided to step totally out of my comfort zone and come up with a centerpiece. Truth be told, I have never actually made a centerpiece before.  I know, shocking. I’ve just never thought I had the skills. So I started simple, and I have to admit I am thrilled with the results!

I decided to use the Martha Stewart Glitter paint to spruce up some glass bottles in my stash. I thought they would make cute vases. I am not a big fan of working with glitter because it tends to spread from my craft room to Antarctica, but this glitter paint was not like that at all. It stays where you put it. Fabulous!

Glitter Paint Bottle Vases

Supplies:
-Glass bottles (Mine were previously bottles of marinade.)
–Martha Stewart Multi Surface Glitter Paint (I used limeade)
–Martha Stewart Foam Pouncers
-Paper plate and paper towels
-Masking or painters tape
–Craft knife
-Flowers and glass marbles for filling vases
–Tulle or ribbon

Instructions:

1-Wash and dry your glass bottle.  Make sure you remove every trace of adhesive if it had a label!

2-Wrap a piece of painters tape around the bottle near the top. This will give you a clean line. If you prefer to cover your whole bottle with glitter paint, you can skip this step. 3-Squirt some glitter paint on a paper plate. Dip your pouncer in the paint and dab off some of the excess on the paper plate. Then start pouncing the paint onto the glass bottle. Let the paint dry, then repeat the process till you get the look you want. I did about 4 coats. 4-After your final coat is dry, it’s time to remove the tape. To get a clean edge, you need to cut along the edge of the tape with a craft knife. If you don’t, the tape will peel off some of your paint. Trust me on this one! See how nice and straight that line is? I wish you could see how pretty the glitter paint is in real life. It was hard to capture how sparkly it is! Now your vase is ready for flowers. If I was giving it as a gift for Mother’s Day, I would use real flowers. But since I have a two year old that likes to remove the flowers/pull of the petals/try to drink the water, I thought fake flowers would be a safer option. 😉

I added some glass marbles to the bottom, put in a pretty pink flower, and tied some tulle around the bottle. Much cuter than giving flowers in the vase from the florist!

If you want to use your vases as a centerpiece, you can place three of them on a tray, then wrap them all together with a toile or ribbon bow. Wouldn’t this be pretty on a Mothers Day brunch table?
