I bought a lamp at the thrift store ages ago, and I finally got around to making it pretty. Unfortunately, I somehow deleted the pictures of the lamp when it was ugly. Which totally bummed me out, because I LOVE a good before and after photo. But I am so happy with how it looks now that I just had to share it.
First picture in your mind a really scuffed up lamp that is half wood and half brass. With a dusty dirty lampshade on it. Got it? That was this lamp before I transformed it.
Here it is now covered in ruffles and painted all bright and white:
Isn’t it lovely? It kinda makes me swoon.
At first I was afraid the shade was too large for the lamp base with all the added ruffles, but I got over it and decided that I just love it. A lot. I kinda want to make another one for my room. Or Rachel’s room. Or something.
This is the first time I have used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and I have to say that I am impressed. I’m planning on using it to paint my kitchen table, but I wanted to try it out on something small first. I never in a million years thought I would say this, but I think I like it just as much as spray paint. Maybe even just a tiny bit more, because you can use it inside and it has no fumes. I can’t wait to use it on furniture!!
I found the most awesome place to buy the chalk paint, but that is a story for another day. 🙂

Same exact question I had too. I love the shade!

I actually adapted an idea from my friend Shelly at House of Smith’s. You can find the instructions here: http://www.thehouseofsmiths.com/2010/09/fabric-flower-tutorial.html. Instead of glueing the folded circles onto a hair clip, I just glued the corner onto the lamp shade. Hope that helps!!
