Utah is known for snow. Lots and lots of snow. But not this winter. I’m not gonna lie, I am NOT complaining. I am not a fan of snow. Like at all. OK, I pretty much hate it. My boys on the other hand, are totally missing the snow around here. They love sledding in the back yard. My youngest son-no joke-loves shoveling snow. And they like building snowmen. This year there isn’t a snowflake in sight. So we decided to make our own snowmen.
Snowmen cookies that is!! Aren’t they the cutest? We just whipped up a batch of sugar cookies and some buttercream frosting, then decorated them with candy. My kids had a blast decorating them, even the older two. 🙂 I’ll take this version of snowmen any day! You can use any sugar cookie recipe, but I’m including our favorite. It’s the recipe I grew up with, and I’ve never found one I like better. Go grab your kids and make some cookies!!
Sugar Cookies
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Buttercream Frosting
1/4 cup soft butter
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
dash of salt
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsp vanilla
1-2 Tbsp milk (enough to make a spreadable frosting)
Beat all ingredients till smooth, adding enough milk to get the consistency you want.
Additional ingredients:
Mini chocolate chips
Red Hots
Candy corns
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and flavorings and beat. Stir in dry ingredients. Chill for about 20 minutes. Roll into balls (mine were about 1 1/4″). Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Flatten with a cup dipped in flour. Bake at 375° for about 8-10 minutes. Cool and frost with white frosting. Decorate faces as desired.
-Makes about 2 dozen 3” cookies.

Thanks Mel, glad you liked them! My kids love them too, and I love that they are simple!

Mine taste like flour š
Kara
Dang, I’m sorry to hear that. I wonder if maybe too much flour stuck to the bottom of your cup when you flattened them. You could try using sugar on the bottom instead. Hope that helps!
