White Chocolate Peppermint Pretzels are so easy to make at home and taste simply divine. You only need four ingredients, and about 15 minutes.
They make great gifts for neighbors, teachers, and friends. Just toss a few in a plastic gift bag and tie it off with some ribbon. Make sure you save a few for yourself, they are addicting!
If you’ve ever tried the Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps that Costco sells during the holiday season, you know that they are AMAZING. Unfortunately, they can also be pretty spendy.
Now you can make a similar treat at home for a fraction of the cost. I usually just use mini pretzels, but to get them just like the Costco version, you can definitely use the flat pretzel crisps!
PERFECT CHRISTMAS TREATS
If pumpkin spice screams fall, then peppermint screams Christmas, don’t you think? I love the flavor of peppermint all year long, but it really calls my name during December.
And of course not only do I love the flavor, but the red and white color is perfect for Christmas. These white chocolate peppermint pretzels look so pretty on a holiday tray.
Trust me, they will disappear fast anywhere you serve them! People just can’t seem to get enough of them.
Have friends and family that live far away? These tasty treats also ship really well!
HOW TO MAKE PEPPERMINT PRETZELS
- PREP – Crush your candy canes. I like to place them in a ziplock bag and pound them with a rolling pin. Spread your pretzels out in a single layer on a silicone liner or parchment paper.
- MELT – In a glass bowl in the microwave, melt together the white chocolate chips and the oil at 40% power, stirring every 30 seconds just until smooth and melted. You can use a double boiler if you prefer.
- DRIZZLE – Pour the melted chocolate mixture into a ziplock bag. Snip a small hole in the corner and drizzle chocolate over each pretzel.
- CANDY CANES – Quickly sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies over the pretzels before the chocolate sets.
- SET – Let the pretzels sit at room temperature for an hour or until the chocolate hardens.
PRO TIPS:
- After crushing your peppermint candy, use a fine mesh strainer to get rid of the peppermint dust. Your pretzels will look much prettier.
- I find that it works best to drizzle chocolate on a few pretzels at a time, then add the crushed candy canes. That way the chocolate doesn’t harden before you add the candy bits.
- If your chocolate starts to harden before you are finished, just pop it back in the microwave for a few seconds at 40% power till it is nice and smooth.
- Try not to overheat your chocolate. If it does overheat a bit and turn thick, you can stir in a bit more oil to get it smooth again.
- DO NOT let water touch the chocolate, it will seize up and turn thick and clumpy.
Can I use almond bark (candy coating) instead of the white chocolate chips?
Yes, you can definitely use almond bark instead. It is actually easier to work with because it melts up nice and smooth and has a more runny consistency than white chocolate chips.
I just prefer using white baking chips because I think the flavor is MUCH better. Almond bark is sweeter and doesn’t have the depth of flavor that the white chocolate does. Adding the oil helps make it easier to work with, and I think it’s worth it.
But it’s definitely a personal preference thing, so you use whatever you want! Everyone will still love these peppermint bark pretzels!
How long will candy coated pretzels stay fresh?
If stored in an airtight container in a cool place, they will last for 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer.
VARIATIONS:
- Instead of drizzling white chocolate over the pretzels, you can dip them entirely in melted white chocolate. You will need twice the amount of chocolate.
- After sprinkling on the candy cane pieces, you can drizzle the pretzels with dark chocolate. It adds a nice color contrast as well as a depth of flavor.
- For even more potent mint flavor, you can add a drop of peppermint oil to the white chocolate. Don’t use peppermint extract, it can cause the chocolate to clump up.
- You can also use pretzel rods or pretzel crisps.

Peppermint White Chocolate Pretzels
Peppermint White Chocolate Pretzels
Crunchy pretzels dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with crushed candy canes. An addictive holiday treat!
Ingredients
- 9 oz bag of pretzels
- 1 11 ounce bag white baking chips
- 2 tsp vegetable oil (or shortening)
- 4 candy canes, crushed
Instructions
- Place candy canes in a ziplock bag. Crush with a hammer or rolling pin till pieces are tiny. (Tip: I use a little strainer to separate the pieces from the peppermint "dust" that gets left behind. I save the dust to sprinkle in hot chocolate. Yummy!)
- Spread your pretzels out in a single layer on silicone liners or parchment paper.
- Place white chocolate and oil in a glass bowl. Melt in the microwave at 40-50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
- Pour melted chocolate in a small ziplock bag and snip a tiny hole in the corner. Drizzle melted chocolate on pretzels, and sprinkle crushed candy canes over the top.
- Let sit till hardened. You can place in the fridge to speed up the process.
Notes
I recommend drizzling chocolate on a few pretzels at a time so that you can add the candy bits before the chocolate sets.
If you prefer, you can melt the white chocolate using a double boiler (or glass/metal bowl over a simmering pot of water). Remove from the heat and stir every 30 seconds; white chocolate is easy to burn.

Is there a reason we do not receive any RESPONSES?? I do not have a microwave; do not want due to cancer from them. How do I melt the Baking Chips?
They seems to get hard too quickly, should I use my over the water water bath instead. THIS IS IMPORTANT; PLS RESPOND. Thank you; Sarah
Kara Cook
So sorry I didn’t see your question Sarah! Yes, you can use a double boiler (or glass/metal bowl over a pan of simmering water). It’s easy to overheat white chocolate, so I like to take it off the heat and stir it every 30 seconds.
Linda
Can we use CRISCO (not the oil) in the tub instead if the oil?? Pls respond today Dec. 1- 2022
Kara Cook
Sorry, for some reason I wasn’t notified of the comments on this post, so I just saw your question. Yes, Cristco (or any brand of shortening) will work just fine in place of the oil. It does say that right on the recipe card. š
Sarah
There is no such thing as white choc. chips. It is white baking chips. PLEASE. Also we say HERBS not ERBS. It is herbs.
Kara Cook
I called them jus white chips, but yes, they are baking chips. There are no herbs in this recipe, so I’m not sure what you are referring to. š
